Frequently Asked Plumbing Questions

What are plumbing options for my "green" home?

If you are looking to help save water in your home, one option you may want to consider is having a "low flush" toilet installed as it will use about half the amount of water. There are also lower flow options for your faucets and shower heads throughout the home that will help conserve water and save you money over the years. Another option for a green home is to consider using a tankless water heater, which doesn't heat water until it is needed, therefore saving much gas and energy.

How can I help prevent clogging in my drains?

If you are looking to prevent blockage and extend the life of your drains, one option is to not allow grease to get down the drains. This will include even cooking oils, as it will eventually block the drains and create problems later on. Believe it or not, simple tools that can help your drains you likely already have in your home, this includes ice and lemons. Frequently using lemon specifically will not only help your sink smell better but it will help grab buildup as it travels down your drain.

Why does my shower keep running out of hot water?

If you are experiencing frequently loss of hot water, there is a good chance that your water heater is passed its years and it is time to replace it. If it is still on the newer side, you will want to be sure to routinely flush it in order to help clear out all of the buildup that it collects over the years. Frequent maintenance will extend the life of your water heater significantly.

Why does my water look yellow?

When water begins to look yellow, it is often a result of rusty pipes due to their age. When this occurs it is generally a sign that it is time to replace the old pipes.

What do you do when my main line is clogged?

We clean the blockage in the line with a cable or jetter.

What is a jetter?

A high-pressure water jetter is used to clean drain lines and drain field laterals.

What is a sewer camera?

This is a video camera put into the pipe to inspect the problem so we can look at it on a television monitor/video tape.

My pump seems to keep cycling over and over again, does not turn off.

This could be caused by either a hole in your drop pipe or a bad pump.

My pump frequently turns on and off.

Possibly your pressure tank has gone bad.

Sometimes my pump works and then it doesn't work.

An electrical problem could be the cause.

My water pressure is low. (Which could be caused by a couple different things)

There is a possible blockage if you have an in-line filter installed or if you have a water softener, a line in your water softener system could have a blockage.

Your pressure tank is no longer working properly and should be replaced.
